QUIT TALKING AND PAY ATTENTION!
This morning, I pull up to 14th & O on my bike, the light turns green for me, I start to cross O as I see a mini-van and a car coming right for the intersection. I stop, and watch the two vehicles run a red light, while a man and a woman are happily chatting away on their cells.
I want talking on cell phones while driving in town made illegal! Get off the phone and pay attention!

It's been banned in progressive cities before. I think you should propose it to someone in the city gov't.
yeah, it's pretty scary out there. I've been buzzed a few times lately all by seemingly oblivious young female drivers yacking on the phone.
yea, I'm not so anti that I want to make it a mission to be illegal. it just bugs me when people are oblivious to the road as a result of their conversation. maybe some people can drive and talk, maybe some can't so good.
ya just gotta look out.
I'd be willing to bet those people knew they were running the red and would have done it with or without a cell phone. When your busy as hell at work sometimes the drive home is a good time to get some business done and reply to those voicemails so when you get home you can talk to your wife or play with your kid(s). I hope they don't ban them in my state, even though I admit it would probably cut down on accidents. When I lived in Lincoln I went to a few mixers with state representatives. Someone always sponsors a bill banning them every year in the unicameral and it never garners enough support to pass. The city route would be another idea, as DaButch suggested.
Oh, Chad.
What a silly thing to bet on.
You're funny.
It's happened too many times to me already that i don't go when its green anymore...i wait for other cars to go...but if i do see that these idiots are about to run a red light i try and get as close to them as possible (at a safe distance too) and yell "GET OFF YOUR PHONE" right at their window as they go by. That usually gets their attention...until the next text message of course.
I bet I'll see drivers stop talking on cell phones about the same time I see all cyclists cease from running stop signs and red lights themselves. That would be the day after hell freezes. Safety and selfishness are inextricably linked.
