Our good buddy CQ and his band of gravel lovin' hooligans are fixin' to unleash Odin's Revenge on up to 75 well-prepared riders this June 29-30. Starting and finishing in the town of Gothenburg, NE., the event will traverse approx. 180 miles of fantastically scenic western Nebraska dirt and gravel roads. Sign-up is set to begin on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14), via a TransIowa-style postcard system.

Speaking of the Indoor Century, we need folks to ride! It's a half hour shift. Take a look at the post below for available times. Stop by, hang out, ride laps, drink coffee, eat pork and have fun!

John Lefler Jr. of the Flatwater Cycling Team and I met with Dave Allder from Lincoln Parks and Rec last week, and everybody is stoked about the great participation we had during the 2011 'cross season. Thanks to all who came out and rode the Van Dorn course and participated in the Flatwater Cycling-hosted races at Van Dorn Park.

Per our agreement with Parks and Rec, I recently re-seeded portions of the park that saw significant wear during the 2011 season, and the course is now closed until training starts for next 'cross season in August. We will be developing a new course for next season and have some exciting announcements coming about the future of dirt trails in Van Dorn Park coming soon as well. So, in the meantime, if you would, please keep off the old course so that it can heal and shift your use over to established trails such as Wilderness Park, Branched Oak, or Wagontrain.

This year, we're kicking it up a notch. we've got two pony kegs of beer, mulled wine, bacon wrapped lill smokies, spiced nutz, buckets of black olives, even a chocolate fountain, We've been decorating for a week, and we've got door prizes from All Hail The Black Market, we've got white elephant gifts to give away and door prize gifts from Cycle Works, and the rafters of D street to take you WAAAAAYYYYY BACK !!!!

ya see,
the people out there are cutting out all the invasive trees in the park, ( just like they did, and are doing out at wilderness park. )

but, the people out at Wagon Train have left the tree's and have stacked tree's across the trail. Why, I have no idea, but this is an un-acceptable way for the people in charge of the land to act, or abuse their power.

There is no reason the trail needs to be closed, it did not need to be closed when the tree's were cleared from wilderness.

Anyone in the buisness of tree clearning knows not to drop tree's across the trail. not only is it an eye sore, and it closes the trail, but it also is dangerous for anyone who is out riding or walking not aware of the problem around the corner, plus the waste of time it takes to do the job over. now instead of the people doing the job the correct way the first time, we are spending twice as much money for someone to have to go back out and clean up after the mess they made, instead of doing it right the first time.

I don't know who is in charge of this project out there, but it seems they need to be informed on how to do a job, without wasting time, and tax payer money.

Got on my bike the other morning to head to work, and it smelled like Hommy Fall fest in the air. Just being out and being, cold, it was something I missed, for like 30 min I was stoked, then I realized this is just the begining, and I thought about moving back to Mexico.

Don't get me wrong, I'm actually stoked for the fall temps, I love the fall, it's probably most everyone's favorite time of the year for riding. There are NWTT's planned, Cross racing, Beer rides, Social rides, Hommy Fall Fest, the Annual Beer Ride here in town. summer season is winding down, fall season is just revving up.

The park, other than a few sections on the back side of the Biker side, is well, EPIC, right now we have been out a few times this week and as you can see, a few friends have been joining us, you gotta keep them lights charged up, it's night riding season. you never know when someone is gonna call you up for a evening ride, better be prepaired.

size is a 58.

it's gun mettal grey with a black steel fork on it, ( not cabon fiber like this fork pictured )

the bike has a seat post rack on it, bontrager with a red plastic box for deliveries.

I have not seen another Motobecane like this in town, so if you see one, let me know please, seat post rack might be removed, but the marks will still be on the black seat post, or maybe even the spacer will be there from the rack.

Go up Hanson Street, it turns into Water Canyon Road. After about 4 miles and 1100 feet of climbing you'll come to the mouth of Water Canyon. Instead of going on into the canyon turn left at the fork, go up a short pitch, roll along about a quarter mile, and you got your gravel sweetness.

the country has the technology, and ability to get rid of it's dependance on oil, coal, natural gas, and nuclear power.

It's just we've all been brainwashed.

the people in power, they don't wana let go.

with wind power, hydro electric power, and solar power. all that polution goes away.

we already have 100 % electric cars
we already have 100 % electric rail

making a semi truck / or tractor that runs off electricity is only being put on the back burner
cuz of the oil companys, and auto manufacturing being in bed with each other.

a 100 square mile solar array in the four corners region can fuel the nations power grid, but that would put all them oil tycoons / nuclear power tycoons, / natural gas tycoons outa business. ( we can't have that )

Check out the MTB race, thinking head north, maybe hit valpo before, and then BO on the way back to catch the action, 1/2 and marathon by 12ish, unless people don't want that much, then I we could do something else, BO on the way out? Sunday's Bacon Ride +++...

MW turned 40 years young this past Tuesday. To help him celebrate, please join us for a special extended version of the Bacon ride Sunday at 6am from the Mopac trailhead at 84th Street in Lincoln. We'll ride to Platte River State Park to chow down and meet up with a group Rafal is leading that's coming down from Omaha. Then, with bellies full of sweet, smoky bacon and sweet rolls, we'll roll onto Plattsmouth, where we'll dip our toes into the swollen, angry waters of the mighty Missouri. MW, JP and I have been talking about this for a while now, so last week, when MW mentioned wanting to make it happen, I thought, "why not?" I hope you can join us.

Here is the route we'll follow (which is mostly gravel roads, with some dirt roads and a little pavement):

The Cornhusker State Games MTB Race is Saturday July 23rd at Branched Oak State Lake, Area 7. Just a fun, fast course that will also be a good prep for anyone riding the Psycowpath race the following weekend.

Registration is still open and day-of entries will be taken. Racing starts early to beat the July heat, with 12 & under starting at 8:00, Beginner/Novice's taking off at 8:30, and Sport/Expert at 10:30. Don't miss your chance to be a Nebraska State Games Champion!

new cycle works team kit looks much better on Chop than it does on me, We are the same size, so she has access to a huge wardrobe. she's got good taste, and now we do twice as much cycling gear laundry.

we had a good time on our ride to Wagon Train. Very warm to start out at 5:45am, just got fricken hotter as the day went on. Chop's hardest ride yet, gravel and single track, and good miles to boot. Beers at shoomakers were well earned at 11am.

D street bike shop has moved.

we had a bike shop in the garage for a while, but nobody used it, to cold in the winter, to hot in the summer, and always full of lots of crap.

We have a bike shop in the basement, " cornbreads " area, do you have any idea how much it sucks to carry your laundry into the D street basement, let alone a bike, let alone a 29er. it's quite the specticle to get a bike down there, you nearly have to ghost ride it down the stairs into the same cardboard recycling box that's been there since Mo-Hawk lived here. I'll just bet there is still porn in the bottom of that thing. No wonder Cornbread has had bikes sitting down there for years. ( yes dude, years ) good bikes too, once you get something down there, it's almost a two man job to get shit outa there. and That is why we have 4 broken washers and dryers down there. to hard to get them out.

Well, with Cornbread leaving D street, Dk, Chop, and I chatted about having a bike shop in the dining room instead of a parking garage for the 12 bikes, 2 couches, and a table. Dk mentioned, shit, just put it in the fo-yay, so we can use the dining room to eat. ( that's funny dk, I guess you have to live here to understand how funny that is.)

We actually mentioned this a while back to Cornbread, and he was all for the idea,but he put on a few stipulations, had to jump through some hoops, I don't like hoops, or jumping, just like doing, so I just did it, and I listened to classic rock doing it too. so in your face bike shop building bye laws.

So yesterday I took it upon myself to clean out and empty out the D street garage, WOW, all I can say is I had no idea there was that much, uh SHIT, is a good word for it, in our garage, if your reading this, and you had shit stored in there, it's at the dump. uh, if your reading this and you have shit stored in the basement, you got this afternoon 2 on to get over here and get it, or it too goes to the dump. ( or well, the construction dumpster I found a few blocks away. )

oh, and just like any storage unit that you stopped paying for, don't even think of showing up here for your stuff that's been in the basement without at least a 12 pack of Ranger Bottles or a 12 Pack of Modus, that's your rental fee for the past few years, purdy cheep hu, lets hope nothing is broken down there... I didn't do it.

Well, bike shop is all ready to go, and just in time, Chop broke a spoke last night on the Dark Side. crap, I gotta go find a chain whip.

you just lost two customers, and I'm thinking that with this kind of friendly welcoming to the growing cyclist community of Lincoln, you will probably loose a few more.

Especially knowing that there are more and more business in Lincoln and Omaha giving out discounts to people who actually do ride, or accomitdating riders and there bikes.

There is a huge list of Bike Friendly stores and business in Omaha belonging to a specific program to give discounts and provide good safe parking for your bike. Check out GREEN STREET CYCLES in Omaha for more information and a list of participating retailers.

Go to Ace hardware on 27th and Hwy 2, and you will be asked to bring your bike inside if you want to make sure it's safe.

Not that I shop at Super Saver very much but when I do, I never get a 2nd look for walking through the store with my bike. Same at Gate Way Mall, not that i'm a big shopper there, but the past two times I did go to the mall, my bike went with me, with no objection from security, or store owners.

More and more business downtown are hiring bikers to deliver. Jimmy Johns is up to 6 riders, C berrys is looking, Noodles and company has an add out looking for riders, Picklemans would be another great place to deliver, same with High Nooners or any place downtown that delivers food.

Come out and....Hustle?!

Sorry for the late news, folks (from lincoln), but there is another hustle coming up soon. So jump on those pedals, strap on those lights, and come test your skills against the many dudes (and dudettes) mounting the saddle to take you down.

This Thursday, June 30th, Lincoln Hustle presents the Warriors Hustle! This hustle is a bit different from the ones we usually put on. Warriors Hustle is composed of a time-based, cooperative team effort to score more points than the other gangs in the allotted time. You and your gang will battle in both speed and wits to get the place of top gang of Lincoln. You will have the chance to earn points doing various obstacles at different checkpoints and also the chance to jump other gang members to steal their points.

As the flier says, you are to travel to the Old 4-H Building (State Fair Grounds) and racers must arrive no later than 7:30pm to race. Make sure to bring a die to steal points. Hope to see all you warriors out there attempting to get your bragging rights, as well as the loot from our friends at Iron Brush Tattoo.

we all started out at D street, ready to depart at 4am, mother nature, she had other plans, we left at like 5:30 am on the backside of a crazy storm.

(you were probably asleep)

Took hwy 79 all the way to North Bend 50 odd miles, the gravel was a no go.

After breakfast in North Bend, we hit the gravel, it was perfect, even the mmr's were perfect.

if you ask around, this was one of the highlights of the trip, the double easy pace line outa North Bend for breakfast., just rolling at 15 mph, would have been like the first days of the 155 if this group would have stayed together, so much funner in a big group like this. and easier.

As them long miles stretch out before you, you kinda tend to find your own riding pace, I found myself in the common company of W, Fob, Fuller, and anyone else who was just riding easy, but as everyone found out the hard way, you might as well not go much faster than W, or your gonna be making a wrong turn.

the crew was huge 17 peeps all the way to Ponca
and 4 turned around in North Bend to get an rainy century in.

we had a few flatts, had to stop at a Dr's office in Pender to get Kelly's cast cut off, it was cutting off circulation and could have caused some serious damage. it gave a few peeps some extra time to rest, and Malcom and I to really step up the Wizard staffs we were working on through the day, I left Pender 12 deep, and one in the pocket for a B road later. Malcom was right on my drinking heals all day.

After Pender, the hills start, and you've got 60 miles of them bad boys, plus some great MMR roads.

Matt Fuller and I road into the Ponca gas station grabbed a few more beers and then up into the park. Nothing quite like rolling into camp to some good food, with good buddies after a long day in the saddle. Thank You to my girlfriend Casey for all your help and work over the weekend. Everyone really appreciated it. well can't wait for next year. hopefully the pics will inspire you to come with us, you've got a year to get ready.... you can do it.

oh ( that's an 18 beer wizard staff, and there ain't no light weight shit in there either, ska brewing and Bud Heavy all the way baby)

She's going to the store to pick up stuff for us, so we're getting food and beer, if you need anything, this is your chance. we have some pots and pans and stuff to pack along to cook with.
The van seats 7. so it will possibly be having to make 2 trips back and forth to get everyone home. I know at least 4 of us will be making the ride back to Pender to get picked up on the 2nd round. if that happens, the cost is going to go up for gas, it's hard to tell how much,
but i'm expecting 5-10 bucks each person kick in for gas, and then your cash for supplies you need purchased.

put your shopping list, the cash, and gas money in an envelope and bring it with you Friday night when you drop your gear off PLEASE.

it is a wizard staff party when we roll into Ponca,

for some of us, it'll be an all day event.

the 155 to Ponca is the the next day, and I have to be home for peeps to drop camping gear off that evening,.

but if you head out of town around 6-6:30 and get to the Hickman bar before 9pm your sure to see a few other bikers show up, then back to Roca for another brew on the way home.

pack your light, for the possible jaunt back through the park on your way home.

Hell yeah, the bartenders let us put the bikes in the beer garden, if you do, remember to tip.

I think Dk slept the whole way out.

big old group starting off at 6am heading for Platte for the Bacon ride.

we rolled into Platte 2 hours latter, one hellava fast ride

The pace was brisk to start off with,

it got even faster cuz people started yo-yoing off the front.

and then others started chasing, basicly till W and I were riding beside each other with a group behind us, it was a often had look W and I share,

THE, TO HELL WITH THAT LOOK.

then the group came back together a few times before the request for one pace the rest of the way won out.

I died when the group made the turn up 310, the damage for sprinting so much to catch up and stay with the group was done.

W decided to sit back and wait for me, the fog was amazing, pea soup.

W was on his way to Omaha and probably just wanted to say goodbye for the day.

sure do like riding bikes with that guy.

we took 334 on the way back after breakfast

the pace, much better, and the group stayed together for the most part.

we did get chased by cu-joe, a huge st bernard came after us, yeah, the sprint was on to see who was gonna get eaten, dear god that was a huge mean dog, and I'm sorry that we had to sacrafice that one kid, nobody liked him anyway, and the dog seemed to think he was tastee enough to let us go.

dog even ate the bike,

ya just gotta be faster than one other guy to not get eaten by the wildlife, right....

3:30 depart from D street June 25th, it's 50 miles to North Bend, we usually have a break up of the group there. some go back home to get their gravel century, while the rest of us head off to PONCA

If you don't let us know, you carry your own gear, food, and you find your own way home.

otherwise, we'll take your camping gear, haul food, and all the other stuff needed for when you roll into Ponca that late afternoon. oh, and a ride home so your not doing 310 over the weekend,. couple of us are gonna attempt the morning leg to Pender. W says it's all downhill and it's the best part of the ride. hey, that means the last part getting to Ponca, is the hardest, just saying.....

cuz it's friday night, and i'm hungry.

of course some of the craftier, weeker folks might say, well, lets just go to Roca and see what happens,

oh, that is the kiss of death. you can't stop at Roca on the way out, you'll miss the kitchen time in Hickman at the bar and grill.

On the way HOME, you stop in Roca.

cuz you don't wana be missing this around 7-8pm

cuz at 8pm, they stop serving.

After some tastee burgers ( or grilled cheese )
and a few pints of beer

we ride out into the country side, jump in my space ship and go off to Tatooine to take pictures of the landscape as the double sun sets on the horizon.

about 6 we leave D street, 7 depart tressle bridge on the jamacia, 7:30 you'd better be standing in Hickman waiting for food.

my girlfriend chop is also getting into the cycling scene, why just yesterday she left me sleeping in late and went out to wilderness for a morning ride.

I was soooo proud.

and jelouse.

as you can see I got my frequent sinner card, cuz I sin a lot, and the guy on the corner knew it, could feel it, could probably sence it like animals can sence impending danger over the horizon, like a fire or a tusnami,

damn, i'm hungry and I don't have much else to say, I've gotta get some food.

Ever since this Jimmy Johns thing got started with having bikes delivering downtown, other shops have started to take notice.

I've been contacted by two other food places downtown asking if I knew anyone else who was interested in being a bike delivery person.

"everyone has a "real" job" I said

but most of them real jobs, suck.

so you should take it from some of us who ride bikes for a living now. I look forward to work every day, it's purdy fricken awesome if you have that outlook.

hell, i'm looking forward to work tomorrow even, are you? if your not, or if you know someone who is looking for some extra cash, well, downtown food places are taking notice that it's faster on a bike, and cheeper all around.

keep your eyes open on face book, twitter, craigslist, and the paper, I think you might start to see some adds asking for some bike delivery people in this town. bout time.

if your sitting at your desk at your "real" job,
and you notice me ride by, think about how awesome it would be to have my job.... cuz it is.
